John Drengenberg talks about being named  “Corporate Spokesperson of the Year”  at the PR News PR People Awards.

“The mission of Underwriters Laboratories is public safety so we certainly want to make anything we say understandable for everybody.”

“We have 6,000 people that work at Underwriters Laboratories.  I talk to many of them just to make sure that I’m up to date on every last bit of information before I talk to any reporter.”

“It’s very difficult to change someone’s mind if they think something is unsafe or if they think there’s a problem area.”

“I try to take on as many new challenges as I can.  I’m always looking for the next step and the next way to not only meet the goals but how to exceed them.”

“I try not to consider age a factor.  I just address everyone the way I would want to be addressed and treat everyone as an equal part of the team and I think that’s what really keeps morale up.”

John Rosica talks about getting inducted into the Hall of Fame at the PR News PR People Awards.

“The real challenge is finding a whole person today because the communication schools have really let us down.  The other part is research and nobody does it or wants to do it and it’s 100 times easier today because of the internet.”

“The best advice i got was from Wally Amos.  He said, ‘You can’t be serious.  It’s only a chocolate chip cookie.  We have to be responsible but if we’re responsible and not serious then we’ll have fun.’ ”

“The second best advice was from an editor of PARADE Magazine, ‘You’re a counselor and if no one’s listening to your counsel, you don’t have a client.’ ”
