Monte’s Five Steps to Acclamation of Social Media for Organizations:

1. Accept that you don’t have control of the conversation.
2. Understand the implications for social media. You have a reputation online and you can contribute to improving that reputation.
3. Listen and learn. Get a sense of what a community is saying about your company and your brand.
4. Experiment with social media. Engage a community. Figure out what platform works best for you and focus on that and do it right.
5. Fully embrace social media. Be part of the community. You may take criticism, but you’re going to let that conversation be open and you can contribute positively to the conversation.
