I think you have to be careful about calling with the knowledge that "you're gonna get hung up on." Having been on the receiving end of those calls, I can promise you that if the same person or agency called me at the wrong time or with an irrelevant pitch, they not only got hung up on, their calls were no longer taken. I'm pretty sure Ronn Torossian was overstating it and that he'd agree that pitches need to be timely and relevant. Key, it seems to me, is to know the media you're pitching. If you call them because you think you really have a story that fits with their publication/station/site, great. Otherwise...be careful. Interesting interview.
