Doug Simon, President & CEO of D S Simon Productions, spoke with Tom Martin, founder of Converse Digital, about his #lastword campaign, part of the Emma-sponsored Talking with Tom blog. After 31 days of his followers voting on who they think should get the last word, Tom is now seeking out Stephen Colbert using social media only to feature him as the last interview in the series to answer what is next for digital media.

Some of Tom’s VlogViews:

“There are a lot of people talking about mobile; not just in terms of phones but in terms of tablets, iPads and such and how that is fundamentally altering and will alter people’s behavior in terms of how they interface with social media and information.”

“Brands can go to market and not necessarily rely on media to carry their message but they can actually create their own news, their own messages, and go direct to consumer.”

“We shouldn’t be worried about what’s next; we should actually be worrying about doing what’s now better.”

“We had a lot of names that were up for vote. Steve Jobs, I think, came in second. Bill Gates, Arianna Huffington… but the winner by a few percentage points was Stephen Colbert. So now, since really the beginning of September, in addition to securing the interviews I’ve already secured with digital thought leaders, I’m now on a quest to secure the final interview in the last week of December with Stephen.”

At BrandsConf NYC on December 2, 2010 Doug Simon, President and CEO of D S Simon Productions, chats with Frank Eliason, Senior Vice President of Social Media for Citibank, on how Citibank is leveraging social media to connect on a more personal level with their customers and humanize the brand’s overall image. Frank also shares a personal story that taught him a lesson on social media communications while he was at Comcast.

Some of Frank’s VlogViews:

“I think that’s what social media really is all about; it’s about humans connecting to other humans in a very personal space so that’s going to humanize any brand that gets involved in it.”

“As an industry, if you really think about it, banking IS about being personal… The fact is their basic aspect is a very personal relationship and social media is a way to enhance that and bring that back, so I think it’s a perfect fit.”
“Ultimately social media is a key to be listening to your customers and when you can, engage them further and get more information from them. It helps improve your brand and it helps improve their perception of your company.”

“Many companies, including Citi use internal tools for social media. So we have an internal site that is centered on social media, has 50,000 of our employees using it today and it’s open to all our employees as time goes on. As they start to use it, guess what, they start to understand social and it gets them even more excited.”

Jeff Pulver, Chairman and Founder of pulver.com, on The New Face of Business

At BrandsConf NYC on December 2, 2010 Doug Simon, President and CEO of D S Simon Productions, spoke with Jeff Pulver, the conference organizer, chairman and founder of pulver.com, and a leader in the emerging TV on the Net industry as well as publisher of The Pulver Report and co-founder of VoIP provider, Vonage on how the face of business is changing with social media.

Some of Jeff’s VlogViews:

“At the end of the day it comes down to allowing yourself to be a human being. The companies that stand behind brands that are just logos or just corporate PR statements, ultimately they lose.”

“We’re living in a world right now where vulnerability, authenticity, realness and humanity actually survive… I think humanity is actually having a reprise and I think that’s showing up in places like branding.”

“Brands are discovering they now have to have people to represent them online and the impact of that is going to change the face of business forever. How we engage in social communications and how we engage in business communications is changing due to the fact that we now, as companies, have people representing us and we have to stand behind what they do and they have to understand how to engage.”

Saul Colt, Award Winning Word of Mouth Marketer, on Why You Should Kiss Your Customers

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

At BrandsConf NYC on December 2, 2010 Doug Simon, President and CEO of D S Simon Productions, spoke with Saul Colt, award winning word of mouth marketer, consultant and expert on social media and customer service as well as self-proclaimed international man of mystery and seriously good kisser, on how to “make out with your clients”.

Some of Saul’s VlogViews:

“The idea of the first kiss, another way of saying it though it doesn’t sound as sexy, is always go to the next step. So you do something really nice for somebody and a lot of people would just be like ‘wash my hands, pat myself on the back, I did something cool.’ But if you can take it to the next step, that’s how you get people to make out with you, that’s how you really get people to have that warm feeling and really get an emotional connection.”

“If you think of how a lot of big brands actually speak to people online it’s very direct, it’s very to the point, it’s just fix a problem, get in and get out. They’re not really trying to connect with a person on an emotional level. So if you can actually forget about what you do for a living, forget about your product, forget about your services and think of the person as a real person. What’s going to connect with the person? The way you actually connect with people is creating experiences, experiences create feelings and my favorite experience is obviously making out with beautiful women so that’s the metaphor I always go with.”
